30 Years – and Counting:
DEKRA and the DTM to Continue Partnership

The DTM and DEKRA are set to continue their 30-year-long partnership, as announced by representatives of the touring car racing series and the leading international expert organization during the race weekend at the DEKRA Lausitzring race track. This means that the DEKRA experts, working in partnership with the DMSB (Deutscher Motor Sport Bund, Germany’s motor racing governing body), will continue to be responsible for performing scrutineering on the DTM cars. DEKRA’s commitment as a series sponsor will also continue.

“We’re delighted that we at the DTM can continue to count on the technical expertise of our long-term partner DEKRA,” says Gerhard Berger, chairman of DTM umbrella organization ITR. “A long, close and trusting partnership like this is a rare thing in the world of motorsport.”

ITR and DEKRA have been through a lot over the course of their 30-year partnership. After the “old” DTM was discontinued in 1996, the championship was revived four years later in 2000. DEKRA found itself back on board with undiminished commitment and support in the form of licensed scrutineers. And DEKRA is continuing to increase the extent of its commitment to this day. DEKRA has been performing scrutineering in cooperation with the DMSB since 2012.

Back in 1989, this was done using mainly mechanical measurement and test equipment. Since then, however, the process has become ever more sophisticated and innovative, not least due to new technology and regulations. A digital measuring arm equipped with a scanner and the largely automated data analysis of more than 200 channels are now key elements of the scrutineering process. Together with the DMSB, DEKRA is ever on the quest for optimization potential and new monitoring methods to ensure that all competitors have the same chance of success.

Most of the DEKRA employees who work for the DTM are based at the DEKRA Technology Center at the Lausitzring and spend their days testing driving dynamics, exhaust emissions and lots more in accordance with the very latest standards.

When the innovative DTM safety concept was introduced in 2012, DEKRA demonstrated its performance and expertise in its FIA- and DMSB-accredited inspection and test centers. In-development pre-tests as well as all the static and dynamic tests required for homologation were performed at the DEKRA Technology Center in Klettwitz and DEKRA Crash Test Center in Neumünster.
