The Automotive Testing Expo Europe in Stuttgart (13-15 June) – together with its sister exhibitions in the USA, China, India, and Korea – is the leading international trade fair when it comes to technologies for testing, development, and validation in the automotive sector. DEKRA, as one of the world’s leading testing service providers in this field, will again be prominently represented at the trade fair in Stuttgart, where its group’s headquarters are located.

DEKRA’s range of services for the automotive and supplier industry extends from overall vehicle validation accompanying development to type testing and homologation, and in the product and component sector from material and parts testing to EMC and RF testing. The focus is on vehicles and mobility services – in particular on automated and connected driving as well as vehicles with electric drives.
DEKRA’s numerous laboratories and test sites – including those in the Netherlands, Germany, Spain and the USA, as well as in Asia – each have their own focus: automated driving, wireless communication, charging technology, electromagnetic compatibility, testing of electric motors and drive axles. In this international network of test locations for connected, automated and electrically driven vehicles, DEKRA offers its customers services from a single source.
One focus of the trade fair presentation at the Automotive Testing Expo (Hall 8, Stand 8134) will be services relating to electromobility. A new test bench for electric motors was recently put into operation at the DEKRA Automobil Test Center (DATC) at the DEKRA Lausitzring in Brandenburg, Germany. “Here we can also test complete electric drive axles, i.e. the combination of electric motor, inverter and transmission”, explains Erik Pellmann, head of DATC. “We are consistently gearing our powertrain and emissions laboratory to the coming market requirements of electromobility.”
Also in the planning stage at the Klettwitz site is a new test center for automotive battery systems, which is scheduled to be fully operational by the end of 2024. It will offer all types of battery testing under one roof. Mechanical, performance and environmental tests will be joined by abuse tests, in which batteries are exposed to situations far beyond their regular use. Initial services such as mechanical shock tests will be offered as early as the second half of 2023.
In virtual rooms at the trade fair stand, interested parties can get an overview of the many different automotive testing services offered by DEKRA.
DEKRA will also be contributing its expertise to the conference program at the trade fair. For example, Krishan Feigl, Head of Automotive Cybersecurity of Digital & Product Solutions at DEKRA, will be speaking about challenges in the verification and validation of components regarding automotive cyber security. As vehicles become increasingly connected, potential threats from manipulation play a more and more important role. DEKRA is designated as a Technical Service under UNR-155 and offers corresponding services for vehicle manufacturers.
Parallel to the Automotive Testing Expo, the ADAS & Autonomous Vehicle Technology Expo is also running at the Stuttgart exhibition center. DEKRA will be represented there with an expert presentation, too. In the conference program, Thomas Jäger, Senior Vice President Global Connectivity of Digital & Product Solutions at DEKRA, will speak about the latest developments in V2X technology and the current regulatory and certification situation, as well as the testing requirements for connected and automated driving.
