DEKRA expands its network of Authorized Test Labs for Alexa Voice Service in Asia

International expert organization DEKRA became the first laboratory in the world authorized for both device testing and security assessment pro-grams for Alexa Voice Service (AVS) to meet the Alexa Built-in require-ments earlier this year. Now more DEKRA laboratories join the Authorized Test Lab (ATL) network and this service can immediately also be offered from multiple DEKRA laboratories in Asia.

ATL Asia DEKRA

“At DEKRA we are thrilled that our locations in Hong Kong (China), Yongin (South Korea) and Yokohama (Japan) have become Authorized Test Labs for Alexa Built-in devices. This service offering will also be extended to further DEKRA laboratories in Asia soon. We provide a comprehensive all-in-one testing and certification solution for Internet of Things (IoT) devices, covering the most relevant mobile and wireless technologies worldwide. The expansion of the ATL locations is a very important step in our cooperation with Amazon and enables us to offer these services locally and close to our customers also in Asia”, says Fer-nando E. Hardasmal, Executive Vice President and Head of Service Division Product Testing at DEKRA.

Alexa is Amazon’s cloud-based intelligent voice recognition and natural language understanding service, which is available on more than 100 million devices from Amazon and third-party device manufacturers. With Alexa, it is possible to build natural voice experiences that offer customers a more intuitive way to interact with the technology they use every day.

As an ATL lab for AVS, DEKRA uses test automation and a series of checklists provided by Amazon to ensure that products meet acoustics, music, functional as well as user experience (UX) requirements. DEKRA generates certification test results in the form of Alexa Qualification Tool (AQT) reports and manual checklists, for submission to Amazon.

In addition to operating ATL labs, DEKRA is also authorized to perform security testing from the laboratory in Spain, allowing device manufacturers that incorporate AVS, to obtain a security assessment report. The requirements help companies creating AVS devices be proactive in identifying and resolving potential security vulnerabilities in their devices and be prepared to distribute security fixes identified after launch. Some examples of the AVS devices are smart speakers, smart screens, TVs, set-top boxes, hearables, wearables, Bluetooth speakers, devices integrating Alexa Calling, Messaging, and Announcements (ACM) or Multi-Room Music (MRM) and Auto devices integrating AutoSDK with or without Local Voice Control (LVC).
